Please review all of the most commonly asked questions regarding communications in Germany. You´ll probably find your answer.

Q: Why should I do my signup with the CommShop instead of somewhere else?

A: Straight talk on this one. You don´t have to take advantage of our services if you don´t with to. However, we know the ins and outs of all of these companies and were here to make your life as simple as possible. Since we don´t work for any of these companies we can give the straight talk about all of them. It is entirely irrelevant to us which service you choose. We simply hope to help you make an educated proper choice. Naturally we live off of the small commission that we make. Thus, we hope you´ll perform the signup through us --- Regardless of the company-

Q. Is DSL offered where I live?

A: Everywhere you go or every web site you check, all the companies make it look like you can get the best service possible. Please don´t take these sites as a "given". All of them are simply checking based on a prefix area and have absolutely no basis with regards to your actual residense. We have the necessary tools to get you a very close "REAL" estimate on what is truely available or not?

Q: Is Cable offered where I live?

A: Although widespread throughout Germany, Cable internet was a late afterthought and is not as widespread as it is in the USA. Many areas are simply not covered. Please check for availabilty with one of our representatives.

Q: How long does it take to get any services started?

A: In general terms --- when lines are available, your previous tenant properly terminated their services, and you´re accepted as a customer, you could potentially have service up and running within 7-10 working days.

Q: Why is my service taking so long to install?

A: This is a common problem. If you have services ordered through Telekom general delays include no available lines, the previous tenant didn´t terminate services (this will delay you tremendously), or there are physical problems to the house. If you have ordered services through any other company, a line installation must first be processed through Telekom, installed, check for capability and then switched on -- or not..

Q: What is a Bonitätsprüfung?

Since phone lines are credit services (you pay for them after you use them), a credit check is a requirement for all companies. If it is positive, then your order is processed. If it is for some reason negative, they will contact you accordingly.

Q: Why must I pay a deposit?

A: Some companies require a deposit. How much depends on the individual companies. As bad as it may sound, more and more comapnies are requiring deposits from service members simply due to the high rates of default..

Q: Can I cancel a contract if my service isn´t available?

A: Generally you can cancel your order within 14 days of placement (if performed online) or if you are notified that your ordered services are not available. If you are notified that services (modified or not) are planned for installation, and you agree to this variation, then you are responsible to those terms on installed service.

Q: What is the best to use if I can´t get DSL?

A: Multiple options are avialalbe, but not necessarily what you wish to have. Mobile "3G or UMTS" services are widely available and popular. However, they are not designed for heavy use. All companies will offer you a Flat rate, but only up to a certain volume at full speed. After this volume is used, you will be throttled back to GPRS - 64 kbps for the rest of your period. Dial is available every, and satelite is available everywhere. Please check with your landlord if they will allow a satelite dish!!

Q: Do I need special software for DSL to work on my computer?

A: No... DSL is generally a simple ethernet connection to a modem which uses the simple setup wizard in all modern PCs.

Q: What modem should I use?

A: A DSL modem is required for DSL and a cable modem for Cable. In Germany both types either come with your service or can be purchased new or used almost anywhere.

Q: Can I use a router?
